9 tips for choosing a dining table for the kitchen

A variety of modern dining tables can baffle anyone. The sizes, models, workmanship, color, style are so different that making the right choice is quite difficult. How to find a convenient and practical table in the kitchen, which is better to choose a design - many consumers ask these questions. It should take into account the dimensions and configuration of the room, the style of interior design, color and material of the headset, the number of people living in the house.

Popular models

Distinguish between non-transformable (classic) and folding tables. The covers of the latter may be:

  • sliding - they diverge to the sides, an additional tab is inserted into the vacated space,
  • retractable - one edge of the countertop is mounted on two legs with rollers, when inoperative, the table is completely hidden in other furniture,
  • hinged or folding - the tabletop is attached with one edge to a vertical surface, when inoperative, the table is parallel to the wall and almost does not take up space.

The dining table with a sliding lid is the most popular model. This is a practical option, convenient both for daily use and for hosting a large company. There are several designs of sliding tables:

  1. Only the countertop extends, the frame does not change shape. This is a familiar option, in which parts of the lid are pushed to the sides, and additional elements are laid in free space. In the extended state, two more seats appear.
  2. The frame does not extend, additional elements extend out from below the main countertop. Depending on the number of spare parts, the number of seats increases by two (one tab) or four (two elements).
  3. The cover and frame slide apart. In such models, the number of additional seats depends on the number of insert elements. The maximum workload is three parts and six places.

The width of the additional tabs in sliding models cannot be less than the standard seat - 50-60 cm. For tables with a non-sliding frame, the weight of the extended parts of the countertop must be taken into account so that the entire structure does not lose stability.

Extendable and hinged transformer tables save space in a small kitchen, but the structures on the brackets are not too reliable, they should not be overloaded. Models of tables with one or two legs withstand heavy loads. The main drawback of retractable and hinged options is that they cannot be moved to another place. True, moving models for the kitchen have recently appeared, but they can only be moved along the wall along the rail. To receive a large number of guests, the above designs are unlikely to work.

Fixed classic tables, as a rule, are made of natural wood or wood materials. Dimensions most often do not exceed 100-120 cm, if the product is not made to order. Long and narrow countertops made as a bar counter are usually made non-sliding, but there are models that have retractable or suspended elements.

A hanging or sliding table, even at maximum sizes, can not accommodate more than 5-7 people. For a large family this is not the best option.

Materials of manufacture

The choice of material for the dining table depends on the style of the kitchen and financial possibilities. It is also worth considering that approximately the same appearance models can be presented in different price categories. Their cost is directly affected by what they are made of.

Particleboard is the most common material. Pluses: reasonable price, durability, water resistance, ease in processing, holds fasteners well. Disadvantages: it is impossible to perform delicate work, in addition, the evaporation of formaldehyde, which is impregnated with particleboard, is dangerous to health. There are two types of plates: E1 and E2. The first is more environmentally friendly, the second is prohibited for children's furniture.

There are laminated particleboard (paper-resin mixture is pressed at high temperature) and laminated (lining with paper or plastic film). In appearance and price, they practically do not differ, but the first will last much longer.

MDF (fine dispersion fraction) is made from wood fibers (very small sawdust), pressed under high pressure. They bind with environmentally friendly paraffin and lignin. Advantages of the material: practically harmless, suitable for fine processing, durable, has all the qualities of natural wood, but much cheaper. There is only one drawback - the price is higher than that of chipboard.

Lightweight economical tables made of plastic are produced in a very wide range of colors and various styles. They are not afraid of water and aggressive detergents, but do not tolerate high temperatures - for hot dishes you will have to use coasters. Another drawback is that the surface is easy to scratch. For a stylish modern kitchen, it is better to choose a table made of better quality material.

Solid wood is another common material. Soft varieties (pine, birch, alder), medium (cherry, beech, oak) and hard (maple, merabu, other exotic species) are used. It is more convenient to work with the former, but it is very easy to damage them. Hard rocks are stronger, but more expensive. Tables made of solid wood, as a rule, are very heavy, do not tolerate high humidity, some varieties burn out in the sun.

Despite the apparent fragility, glass tables made of modern materials are very durable. They cannot be broken, scratched, they are not afraid of moisture, do not emit dangerous fumes, and do not cause allergies. Such a table is practical (any pollution can be washed), visually adds to the kitchen space and air. There is only one minus - traces of even small splashes of water remain on the transparent cover. But there is a way out - a table with a matte worktop.

The glass table in the kitchen should be made of tempered material with a thickness of at least 10 mm.

Of stone (marble, granite) make only countertops. They look elegant, stylish, but very heavy and not too practical: the material reacts to acid (juices, vinegar, wine), chips are formed at the ends, the surface is covered with scratches. The most durable is considered the modern version of the quartz countertop, in which polymer resins are present.

Metal is rarely used for a home dining table. Cold material is ideal only for industrial styles. Such options, as a rule, are made of stainless steel, and it does not tolerate certain types of household chemicals, it quickly becomes covered with scratches, dents. It is preferable to choose combination tables with a metal frame and wooden, plastic or glass countertops.

Recently, tables decorated with tiles or mosaics have appeared. Patterns can decorate only the center of the countertop, located at the edges or cover the entire furniture cover. There are sliding and non-sliding models. Tiled ornament looks very elegant and, depending on the pattern, can organically fit into almost all existing styles.

The rating of tables is headed by models made of particleboard, MDF or natural wood. Glass, metal, stone models are less popular, although they often bypass structures made of other materials for durability and practicality.

No. 1. What size table do you need?

The table should be such that behind it the whole family was comfortablebut at the same time there was still free space in the kitchen itself. Ergonomics specialists have long counted and brought convenient table formula. So, for one seated person there should be at least 60 cm of width and 40 cm of depth, in the middle of the table there should still be space for serving items that are common to all. The minimum width of the dining table is 80-85 cm, and length already selected depending on how many people will regularly gather at the table, and how big your kitchen is.

It is also worth noting that choose table with a width of more than 105 cm, even if the area of the kitchen allows, not quite a good idea. At such a table it is quite difficult to communicate, comfort is lost. But a table already 80 cm will also be inconvenient for the family, because there will be no place for serving.

The choice of table size depends on its shape. So, a rectangular table with parameters of 150 * 90 cm is perfect for a family of 4-6 people, depending on where it will stand. For a family of up to 8 people it is better to look after a table with parameters of 200 * 110 cm, etc. If the table is round, then the calculation goes a little differently: at the smallest table with a diameter of 110 cm 4 people will fit perfectly, with a diameter of 130 cm - 6 people will sit down.

It should be borne in mind that there should be free space for normal movement. So, the chairs should be moved away without any problems, without hitting other items of furniture or equipment. It is optimal that at least 1 meter remains between the table and neighboring objects.

No. 2. Which form should I prefer?

Today, dining tables are presented mainly square, rectangular, round and oval, although in some designer collections there are some fancy shape optionswhose convenience is in question. What form of the standard table is more preferable in each individual case?

Rectangular table - This is a real classic. It is very convenient, it can easily be put against the wall or extended into the center of the kitchen. Moreover, there are a lot of folding, sliding models, transformer tables, which in a matter of moments from a compact dining table turn into a place for a real feast for ten people.

Square tables - one of the most capacious. In addition, they greatly save space, suitable for small kitchens. Being in the corner, they will be an excellent option for a family of two people, and a square table in the center with a minimum side length of 90 cm is already a great option for a family of 4 people. For large families with a spacious kitchen, a square table for 8 people is suitable.

Round table will make the kitchen interior more interesting, and the space itself will be safer for children, because there are no corners. Moreover, a round table can fit much more people than a rectangular one with the same surface area. Also on sale there are round tables with the ability to transform. Dining tables of this shape have some disadvantages: they cannot be pushed against the wall, and they are suitable only for small families, since a table for 8 people will be so large that it will be uncomfortable to communicate.

Oval tables have all the advantages of round and rectangular: they are great for large families, comfortable, have a great appearance. Semicircular tables are also popular today - a good option for kitchens with a small area.

Number 3. What table to choose for a small kitchen?

Summing up all of the above, it can be noted that for a small kitchen the best option is semicircular table, where one side is a straight line, which is close to the wall. Small round table - A great option for a small family, which in everyday life usually does not use the corners of the table for serving, which means there is an opportunity to save space in the kitchen.

For the smallest kitchens you can advise folding tablescrewed to a windowsill or wall. When it comes to eating, they pick it up, and then return it to its usual position so that it does not interfere with free movement in the kitchen. As a rule, together with such tables use stools, which can also be folded, or set on top of each other.

Transformer Tables - an option invented just for modest premises. A compact table, at first glance, can turn into a huge one thanks to special folding, sliding, etc. If suddenly guests arrived, then there will be no problems with their landing.

To make the space visually a little wider, you can choose transparent glass or plastic table. It will still take up space, but at the same time, the kitchen will not be perceived as tiny and crowded with furniture.

Number 4. Table for a large kitchen

For a large kitchen, you can choose almost any version of the dining table, because you are not constrained by anything. A spacious table will look great in a spacious kitchen - a small one will simply get lost, and will look out of place. It is best to put a table in the center, but if the kitchen is equipped with an island, then the table can be placed closer to the wall.

Great for large kitchens long rectangular and oval tablesto be complemented by appropriate chairs. For medium-sized kitchens, tables of any shape are suitable, and their location will depend on the location of other pieces of furniture.

No. 5. What material to prefer?

The dining table must be made of durable and reliable material, which is resistant to accidentally spilled moisture, normally tolerates washing. Today the most popular tables in which countertops are made of such materials:

  1. tree. Such tables are the most durable, durable and reliable; they serve for decades and boast excellent appearance. Depending on the type of wood, the countertop may have a different shade and texture. Such tables fit perfectly into the classic interior and will be indispensable in the kitchen, where there are already wooden pieces of furniture,
  2. rattan - Another natural material, which, despite its lightness, is very strong and durable. Such tables are usually covered with thick glass on top to preserve the beautiful appearance of wicker furniture, and improve performance, reducing the risk of crumbs getting into crevices,
  3. glass - material that, due to its transparency, does not visually clutter up the room, but is not inferior in functionality to its analogues. For the manufacture of glass tables using tempered triplex, which has sufficient strength, withstands strong shocks, and in which case, even if damaged, is not able to injure anyone. The glass itself can be completely transparent or frosted, with some kind of pattern, with photo printing painted in some color. The legs can be made of any material, but metal is most appropriate. This table fits perfectly into the interior in the style of minimalism and high-tech. Caring for it is a little more complicated, since you need to carefully get rid of divorces,
  4. laminated particleboard - the cheapest, but at the same time short-lived material. The surface can imitate any texture, but rather quickly chips appear on it from mechanical damage and bubbles from moisture,
  5. veneered MDF - a very durable material, which is almost as good as wood in properties, and with proper care the table can generally be called eternal,
  6. stone countertop - a real decoration of the kitchen, but the room itself for such a design reception should be rather big. In terms of performance, such tables are strong, as long as possible, they cannot be damaged by shock or water,
  7. tiled table - An interesting, but rarely encountered option. If you lay the surface of the table with the same tiles as the walls, we get a harmonious interior, and the table will be easy to wash and not be afraid of moisture and aggressive detergents.

No. 6. Where to put?

Most kitchens can't boast a large area, so there are not many options for arranging the table. The table is usually placed under the wall opposite to the one where the working area is located. If the kitchen is spacious and has a full dining area, the table can be put in the center. If you are lucky to become the owner of a separate room intended for eating, then the table is definitely set in its center.

Number 7. Number of table legs: how much better?

The number of legs at the table can vary within certain limits. When choosing a dining table, this parameter is often underestimated, although it is no less important than the material of the tabletop or the size of the table. So, how many legs can a table have, and which option is preferable?

  1. one leg as a central support - a very convenient and stable option. It’s convenient to sit at such a table, because your legs will not bump and hit the table legs,
  2. two legs - This is not the most convenient option, although outwardly it looks quite compact and comfortable. A huge minus of such designs is the lack of the ability to sit on the ends of the table, because the legs simply have nowhere to put on,
  3. three legsare usually found in round tables. This is a fairly convenient, functional and aesthetic option,
  4. four legs - A classic version, the convenience of which, for sure, has been tested by each of us, so the comments here are superfluous.

Number 8. Dining table style

You probably shouldn’t even say that the dining table should fit into the interior of the kitchen space. It is advised to choose a table and chairs already at the very end of the repair of the kitchen, when all the subtleties of the created interior are known. But better is create a future kitchen project in advance, and choose the table that will fit as much as possible. The classic-style kitchens are complemented by wooden dining tables. Modern space will look great with a glass table and plastic transparent chairs.

Modern kitchens and kitchen studios today are often equipped bar counters. They perform both the function of separating the space of the working area and dining room, as well as an additional surface, behind which you can also have lunch or a snack.

No. 9. Which manufacturer to prefer

Today, the choice of tables is simply huge, and often the quality is determined by the name of the manufacturer. The most popular are tables made by manufacturers of such countries:

  • Italy. This country is famous for its many furniture companies that offer high-quality, comfortable, practical and stylish tables that amaze with their design. Manufacturers offer both chic expensive options, and quite affordable, but no less high-quality,
  • Poland manufactures products according to all European standards, so the tables come out of high quality. At the same time, companies here take into account the latest canons of furniture fashion, but do not overcharge. Tables from Polish manufacturers are in great demand today,
  • Germany differs in a meticulous approach to production, so the dining tables of German manufacturers impress with their convenience, high quality, every detail is thought out in them,
  • China also offers quality dining tables and often at fairly affordable prices. But you can get a product of appropriate quality only if its price is not ridiculously small: for a low cost it’s foolish to expect to get a durable product,
  • manufacturers from Of Russia Today they can compete with European and Chinese companies. Domestic manufacturers offer quality products with an original design, and taking into account the characteristics of our cramped kitchens. At the same time, the price of domestic products is often much lower than imported due to the lack of many additional costs associated with transportation.

In conclusion

The dining table is a real center of the kitchen, where all households gather and where they receive guests. This place should be cozy and comfortable, practical and durable, fit the room in style and size, accommodate all family members and guests. At first glance, choosing a dining table seems like a daunting task, but in fact it’s much easier: you just need to think about the interior of the kitchen and the requirements for the table in advance, and our tips will help you make the right choice.

Basic principles and criteria for choosing a kitchen table

The dining area is designed taking into account the number of people and the intensity of operation. When deciding how to choose the right table for the kitchen, they most often prefer classic rectangular designs. However, manufacturers of dining groups also offer a number of progressive solutions in the form of transformers that easily fit into the interiors of modern kitchens.

Size and height

Which kitchen table is better to choose: it is imperative that the dimensions of the structure allow for a comfortable meal for each household. According to ergonomics experts, in order to comfortably accommodate at the dining table, a person needs a space with parameters of width and depth within 60x40 cm.

When thinking about how to choose the right dining table in the kitchen of an apartment, the following recommendations should be kept in mind:

  • the surface of the structure is visually divided by the estimated number of households, in order to each allocate a personal area of 60x40 cm. It is important that there is a free zone on the dining table for the serving set in the form of bread boxes, common dishes, salads and slices, pepper and salt shakers, other components,
  • the recommended width of the dining table varies in the range of 80-100 cm. This is important for convenient serving, comfortable accommodation for households, and of course for communication during family meals and a festive feast with friends.
  • the length of the structure depends on the estimated number of people who simultaneously use the dining group.

The height of the model is selected based on the preferences of family members. Most often they dwell on classic solutions, thinking about which table to choose for the kitchen. Advanced youth often decorates the dining area with a high design in the form of a bar counter with a set of chairs on long legs.

Rectangular

It is a classic solution, suitable for arranging most modern kitchens, regardless of the size of the room and interior styling. Features of the operation of rectangular dining structures:

  • for a model with dimensions of 150x90 cm, 4-6 people will comfortably fit
  • The rectangular configuration option is conveniently installed near the wall, in the center of the room, near the window. Ergonomic shapes ensure ease and comfort of use,
  • modifications are presented with sliding mechanisms, various designs of supports / legs.
Rectangular kitchen table

If there is a solution to the problem, which kitchen table to choose in order to save useful space in the kitchen, the rectangular transforming table with a folding, sliding or folding element is a priority.

Square

The best option for the design of the dining area for two is a small square kitchen table. It is most often installed in the corner of the room. When arranging a spacious space, a square structure is placed in the central zone or near the free wall. For a family of 4 people, a model with dimensions 90x90 is recommended. If you choose a modification with a sliding mechanism, it is easy to create comfortable conditions for receiving guests.

Round

The streamlined shape with the absence of corners determines the popularity of round models when arranging dining areas in most apartments with small households. This configuration also provides ergonomics and a presentable look. At the round table it is comfortable to eat, communicate, spend joint leisure time with children, organize holiday feasts.

Oval

The solution stands out for its elegance and sophistication, is appreciated for its ease of use in spacious rooms. Oval models of small sizes are also relevant for the arrangement of small kitchens in urban apartments. The absence of corner elements allows you to minimize the risk of injuries in case of use in families with toddlers or elderly households. Oval tables are most often decorated with spacious dining areas in country houses.

Design Features

When choosing a dining set for a small city kitchen or a spacious dining area in a country house, it is important to consider the design features of the model in question. What you need to pay attention to when deciding which dining table is better to choose:

  • quality and reliability of the material of the countertops and legs. The basis of the design must comply with the operating conditions,
  • margin of safety of fasteners. Particularly important is the reliability of the mechanism of the transformer tables,
  • mobility characteristics. It will be difficult to move heavy structures if it becomes necessary to rearrange furniture.

If we are talking about transformers, it is worth considering that some models are fixed to certain interior elements, for example, to a windowsill, wall or shelf of a kitchen unit.

Design and combination with the interior

Furniture for the dining area is chosen in accordance with the interior design. Here the tone is set by the style of the kitchen, the features of the layout and design of the room:

  • when arranging a classic kitchen, wooden models are relevant,
  • the glass top works harmoniously in modern hi-tech and modern spaces,
  • kitchen studios perfectly complement the bar tables made of plastic and ceramic solutions.

Spacious kitchens are often decorated with an overall table in the form of an island, which is located in the center of the room and represents a key figure in the composition.

For a small kitchen

When arranging compact rooms, it is important to save usable space, so the following solutions are relevant:

  • bar table. Most often, the model is installed at one end to the wall, has a storage system under the countertop, which saves a lot of useful space in the kitchen,
  • small round table. The option is relevant for a family of 2-4 people, also suitable for a young couple with children,
  • folding tabletop. The design is screwed to a window sill or wall. If necessary, it is lifted using a locking mechanism,
  • table transformer. When thinking about which table to choose for a small kitchen, do not neglect the transformer designs. The solution is relevant in the design of modest quadratures of urban cuisine, the variability of the dimensions of the dining group is provided using special mechanisms.
Small kitchen table

Multifunctional transformers also provide a capacious storage system that allows for coziness and comfort for households.

For a large room

Spacious kitchens are designed using large dining groups, since smaller kitchen tables do not contribute to the harmony of interior design. For rooms with an oblong layout, large models are generally chosen in oval or rectangular designs. Depending on the configuration of the space, large round and square tables are also in demand. Models with a sliding mechanism allow you to create an additional surface if necessary, turning the round shape into an oval, and the square transforms into a rectangular one.

The nuances of the preference for the number of legs of the kitchen table

The design of the dining groups provides for various options for supporting structures. In some cases, kitchen tables with one central counter are preferred. For some modifications, the complete set is optimal with two supports or 3-4 legs. When choosing a dining table, the following characteristics should be considered:

  • the model with a central support in the form of 1 massive leg is equipped with a wide base, which supports the rack and ensures the stability of the structure. Sitting at the dining table with 1 support is more than comfortable, as there is free space for legs,
  • The option with 2 massive supports looks presentable and stylish. However, comfort is provided to everyone except those who are sitting close to the counter, as there is a shortage of free legroom,
  • furniture with 3 pillars is most often found in the interiors of connoisseurs of ergonomics and original designs. The solution impresses with elegance, exclusive design and functionality.
Kitchen table with central support in the form of 1 massive leg

The option with 4 legs is familiar to everyone, as it is a classic solution when assembling dining tables.

Kitchen Area

For the dining group, a place is allocated in accordance with the layout of the kitchen set and the working area. In a small kitchen, a table occupies a space against a free wall or in a corner. Sometimes it is advisable to install it near the window close to the windowsill. If you plan a bar table, the design most often has one end to the wall. When arranging a spacious kitchen-dining room, the dining group occupies the central section of the room. In some cases, the table is part of the working area, located in the form of an island.

Table shape

In addition to the aesthetic function, the shape affects the ability to set the subject of the decor in the room and how many people fit in it. We'll talk more about how to calculate sizes in the next section. And now we will discuss what are the configurations of countertops.

Classic pattern. Good installation options: in the center of the room, near the wall, in the corner. Depending on the length of the countertop, a large number of diners can be seated for such furniture, while there is no feeling of alienation due to the vast surface, and everyone can reach the middle.

As for materials and design, there are no restrictions. You can find products in a variety of stylistic designs. It is among these types that transformers are most often found.

Good for tiny kitchens where the object is in a corner or near a wall. However, only two or three people can sit down for it. If you put the table in the center, then 4 people will sit down. At the same time, it makes no sense to increase the surface area, otherwise a solid area will form in the center, which is inconvenient to reach for.

The assortment of such products pleases with variety: due to the fact that they are popular in small apartments, manufacturers try to produce as many models as possible.

Not suitable for tiny rooms, due to the fact that they require placement in the middle. They allow more people to settle down than for a square (up to 8 people). But at the same time, they also have limitations in size: if you exceed the diameter of 1.5 m, then the same drawback will appear as in the previous variety.

Often they are made of wood, glass and rattan. Harmoniously, such patterns look in classic interiors. Check out 29 round items on the First Furniture website.

A compromise between rectangular and round. It retains the convenience of placing the former and the spaciousness of the latter. An additional plus for families with children is the lack of corners, which kids often hit.

Custom models. They look very impressive, but functionally lose to the rest. Able to accommodate no more than two or three people, inappropriate look against the wall and in the corner.

Usually they are placed as a second table when organizing a tea corner.

Although this is not quite a table, but now many are abandoning traditional products in favor of the bar. Here it is necessary to take into account that the height of the bar exceeds the standard height: not everyone will like it. Also, you need to buy special chairs for it.

Due to its compact size, space is saved greatly, and a variety of stylistic solutions makes it possible to choose a design to your taste.

Criterias of choice

The main criteria for choosing a table for the kitchen:

  • First of all, the size and shape of the countertops depend on the size of the kitchen. Any kitchen is smaller than a dining room or a spacious living room. The countertop should not interfere with standing on the work surface and simply move,
  • family members usually have lunch and dinner with the whole family and in the kitchen. Not all families have a separate dining room or set the table for dinner in the living room - our frenzied rhythm of life simply does not allow it. Dining table must accommodate all family members,
  • functionality. It is necessary even before going to the store to decide whether to buy a table only for eating, or if it will serve as a work surface for cooking, will become a writing and playing table for the child. Maybe dad will also glue models after him, weave baskets or cut out wood.

Kitchen area and table sizes

The area of the kitchen determines the size, and sometimes the shape of the table. The minimum distance between the table and the work surface is 60 cm. The optimal distance is for two people to stretch, that is, about 1 m. Therefore, before choosing a table for the kitchen, you need to carefully measure the free space in this kitchen. Then think about how the table will stand, what shape will fit optimally into the room. It’s even better to draw a detailed plan.

The kitchen area is about 5-6 square meters. m is placed a traditional narrow rectangle on four legs, set in a corner. After him, a maximum of three people can comfortably eat, if 6 people are moved to the center of the room without comfort. In tiny kitchens of 4 square meters. m (there are such!) You can only place a folding table-book or folding table.

In traditional nine-story buildings and some stalinkas, kitchens are a bit more spacious, but you can only place a rectangular or square table of slightly larger sizes in them. Designers can always see wonderful projects with round glass tables and chairs in a small kitchen. But in real life, families usually live in an apartment, not young people eating in restaurants, and a small round tabletop is inconvenient for eating and makes it difficult to approach desktops and a stove.

Tables of round or rectangular shape can be conveniently placed only in a room with an area of at least 8 square meters. m. Worktops of a complex fantasy form are relevant only in spacious kitchens of elite housing or private homes.

Countertop Selection: Functionality

In whatever style the kitchen is designed, the material of the countertop is primarily determined by the requirements for its functionality.

Wooden surfaces are good for eating, but poorly suitable for use as a work surface: varnish and paint are inappropriate in this case, and no one will scrape the wooden surface in the 21st century. Wooden surfaces are not very suitable for leisure playful children’s hands or adults, which can damage the tree. The glass is practical and easy to clean, but is afraid of scratches. The most convenient tabletop for cooking is from MDF, chipboard with a plastic coating or stone. But a table with a stone countertop is very expensive. Metal-coated worktops are not used for dining surfaces even in high-tech style: the metal is always cold, and it is uncomfortable to take food from a metal surface.

Design selection

The best option is a simple awkward design. There is nothing to break, the design will not warp and stagger over time. The table in the form of a book is quite durable and practical - both rectangular and oval. Such tables can be easily and quickly folded up, laid out; they are convenient to use in case of guests' arrival or if daily folding is necessary.

If you have a choice, you do not need to choose transformer tables for the kitchen. Most likely, such a design will always stand apart, and in terms of price and durability, transformers differ from simple tables for the worse.

Style selection

A dining table is a purely utilitarian thing, and style in the selection criteria is in last place. The reason is the difficulty in designing small kitchens in a certain way, almost always they are decorated in a minimalist style.

If the kitchen is small or medium size, the design of wooden tables comes down to the options:

  • wooden structure, varnished and tinted - for the kitchen in the Scandinavian or rustic style, aged - for the country style, painted in light colors - for the Provence style,
  • a glass table with metal legs,
  • ceramic and tile tables
  • tables with a traditional tabletop made of MDF or chipboard coated
  • structures with stone countertops.

Stone countertops fit all styles, even the hi-tech interior. To the headset in a modern style, modern style, loft, tabletops made of MDF, chipboard or glass are more suitable. Glass tables with metal legs are poorly suited to rustic styles, eco-style, Scandinavian style and are ideal for high-tech and loft.

Elegant products made of expensive exotic wood, decorated with carvings and inlays, bent legs, curly milling, do not look good next to a stove, refrigerator and functional desktops.

The size

The dimensions of the furniture depend on two factors: the area of the room where the table will be installed, and the number of people who need to be planted for it.

So, it is believed that landing requires at least 60 cm of surface width and 40 cm of depth. These are the minimum acceptable parameters. In this case, you will have to take into account that there still needs to be a place for common dishes, so you can safely add 20 cm to the depth.

If you plan to land on all sides, then the smallest permissible depth is 80–85 cm, or better, more. However, a product wider than 105 cm is also not very successful, since not everyone will be comfortable laying food.

Experts advise to calculate the dimensions based on the size of the family, plus 1-2 places for guests. It turns out that for a family of 3 people (if the object is installed on one side against the wall), the following sizes will be optimal: width 80–90 cm, length 120–150 cm. For the celebration, you can move the furniture and put six for it.

These calculations concern rectangular and oval patterns. A round table for 6 people in diameter must be at least 1.3 m.

When choosing, consider the availability of free space for installing chairs and moving around the room. If the chair is in the aisle, then from the edge of the countertop to the nearest object should be at least 1 m, and in the case when only the chair is installed, 70 cm is enough.

Transformation Method

In order not to buy a bulky table for a large company, you can do folding. This miniature object for daily use turns into a full-fledged huge table during the holidays. The design may be different.

  1. Folding - two parts stacked on top of each other and for celebrations simply unfold like butterfly wings. This increases the area exactly twice. See a selection of 42 items at First Furniture.
  2. The book is a species familiar from Soviet times. When folded, it is a small pedestal, and if necessary, one or two side wings are installed on folding supports.
  3. Sliding - the lid is divided in half, and to increase the size of the seats, you should push the halves apart and install an additional insert in the middle. See a selection of 176 products.
  4. Transformer - this furniture can turn from a kitchen table into a compact coffee table, for example. When changing, not only the surface size increases, but also the height. A selection of 184 transformers.
  5. Retractable - the tabletop is hidden in other furnishings, for example, is a continuation of the window sill, kitchen unit or bar counter. It is located in a niche, and is advanced and retracted by a slight movement of the hand. Furniture with a retractable insert is very convenient in a limited area.

Small kitchen

The most difficult task is to choose furniture for a tiny kitchen. It is necessary to put so much of everything here that there simply is no space left on the table.

The salvation in this situation can be a folding option, one side of which is attached to the wall. After the meal, the countertop lowers, and there is room for movement and cooking. In this case, chairs can also be selected folding.

For two or three people, you can choose a compact square or rectangular model, which will save precious centimeters. Here you definitely need to pick up chairs that can be pushed under furniture, otherwise they will occupy the entire free area.

Of course, we should not forget about convenient transformers. Also, many refuse a full-fledged dining group in general and replace it with a compact bar. In conditions of limited space, this is entirely justified if the residents themselves like it so much.

Big kitchen

Happy owners of a spacious kitchen can choose a piece of furniture, focusing solely on their own preferences and the overall design of the apartment. In such a room, any sizes, materials and shapes will be appropriate.

It is worth remembering that in large rooms too small tables are “lost", and the interior will not look full.

Canteen

Housing, in which there are separate apartments for eating, certainly cannot be called small-sized. The main object of the spacious dining room is just the dining table. It must be quite massive and located in the center so that there is no feeling of empty space.

Ideally fit the model in the form of a circle or oval (depending on the layout of the room).

How to buy a table on the Internet

In the online furniture stores, each product has several high-quality photos and a detailed description. This is enough not to make a mistake in choosing. Two more advantages of online shopping - discounts and the possibility of home delivery.

Look at the selection of dining tables in the following stores (links immediately lead to the right products - open and choose):

  1. First Furniture - 9 categories of goods, a huge selection.
  2. WallyTally - 289 products at a price of 2737 rubles.

Rating of the best dining tables

Above, I put a few links to collections, look at these two products and their “options” on the sites of stores.

Domoteka Real-7 - furniture with an artificial stone surface at a cost of 12,100 rubles. Such material not only looks very impressive, but also quite unpretentious in operation. The base with curly legs is made of chipboard. The width of the working area is 56 cm, and the length is 75 cm. If necessary, it doubles, thanks to the swing-out transformation mechanism.

  • the stone withstands thermal effects and does not absorb dyes,
  • doubled
  • many configurations.

Eames DSW - a round copy with a diameter of 100 cm for 15 700 rubles. The countertop is made of MDF, supports made of solid beech. A metal frame adds a twist to this simple product. It serves not only for decorative purposes, but also gives the furniture strength and stability. An elegant combination of colors in harmony with all modern styles, but especially harmoniously fit into minimalism.

  • simple and at the same time effective design,
  • easy assembly
  • spacious.

  • costs more than similar options in another design,
  • does not fold out.

Probably, the main thing in any piece of furniture is that you and your household like it. Dining table should contribute to creating a cozy, friendly atmosphere. And here it is important to take into account everything that is written above: both the shape, and the dimensions, and the material of manufacture, and the number of legs.

Do not seek to save. As a rule, a low price indicates the use of low-quality raw materials for production.
